Aviation Minister To Focus On Security

Chief Ostia Chidioka (Minister of Aviation)

The new Minister of Aviation Chief Ostia Chidioka has said that he would henceforth channel the resources of the Ministry to boost safety and security of Nigeria Airports rather than remolding of the Airport terminals.

The Minister made this known during the Inspection tour to Nnamdi Azikwe international Airport Abuja last week saying, “I see my predecessor did very well in the terminal building so, all that we need to is to focus and complete the work that has already started.”

“But with that, we want to pull out resources away from terminal and focus more on security and safety of the Airports while we want to make the past to travel in more convenient manner, we don’t want to compromise the security of the airports,” he said

The Minister pointed out that the move to retain the United State Federal Aviation Authority categories status had provided the opportunity to review the safety of Nigeria’s aviation operations. He said, “More importantly, we are making sure there is an alignment between Safety of the air and the security of passengers and the terminal buildings and of course, the passengers’ comfort. So with that in mind, we are having total review of our security system in the airports with a view to make sure we meet the global best practices.”

According to the minister, work was going well at Abuja Airport but now disruption has been passed to the operations ‘adding that strategy needed to be placed more on communication with the passengers adding that “if this is done between four to six months we shall get the terminal up and running in the domestic area cause by the time the work is completed, passengers will be comfortable travelling in the Air.
