South-South Media Professionals Woo NIMASAMaritime journalists drawn from the South-South Geopolitical zone have extended its arm of fellowship to the new management of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), pledging their full support in assisting the Agency to fulfill the core of its mandate to the nation.

This was revealed in a press statement signed by the Deputy-Director and Head of Public Relations of NIMASA, Hajia Lami Tumaka.

 

The journalists under the aegis of South-South Media Professionals paid a courtesy visit to the Acting Director-General of NIMASA, Mr. Haruna Baba Jauro in his office, where they assured him of their support in any areas that it would be required by the Agency.

 

According to the leader of the delegation and publisher of Shipping World Magazine, Mr. Asu Beks, the Association would use the media in ensuring that the core mandate of the Agency is enforced.  

 

Beks however emphasized the need for the NIMASA to always furnish the media with the right information on a timely basis, noting that most of the negative publicity recorded in the past years about the Agency was as a result of communion gap between reporters and NIMASA.

 

In his response, while commending the media professionals for their willingness to support the Agency in executing its core functions as the regulatory body in the maritime sector, Mr. Jauro assured them of the cooperation of the Agency so as to ensure accurate reportage for the sustainable growth and development of the sector.

 

The Acting DG further assured them that a committee was already in place to look into the disbursement of the Cabotage Fund and to ensure that the fund is utilized appropriately.
