CUSTOMS, FAAN Liaise On SecurityThe Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Dikko Inde Abdullahi, and the Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Engr Saleh Dunoma, in a joint statement has agreed to work together for improved airport security.

Following the incidence of a fracas between some officials of the Nigeria Customs Service and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) at the MMIA Lagos, a high level meeting of the officials of both organizations held recently.

The Customs delegation led by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Dikko Inde Abdullahi, and the FAAN, led by its Managing Director, Engr Saleh Dunoma, reviewed the facts and resolved to maintain periodic consultations to facilitate airport security.

After their deliberations, The two Chief Executives expressed regrets over the incidence of  3rd June 2015 and agreed to work together to avoid future occurrence.

Dikko assured that he will investigate the involvement of Customs Officers in the fracas and will take appropriate punitive action if they are found guilty.

He stated that he will review current deployments at MMIA, to ensure that only officers who meet the requirements of civility are retained.

On his part the MD FAAN said that FAAN will not restrict the movement of Customs Officers deployed at the airport, but will continue to manage access control to ensure airport security in line with global standards.

He also stated that operations in the Airports will be guided by strict adherence to processes and procedures established by the Law.

Engr. Saleh added that current conflicts in the enabling Acts of the two organizations will be harmonized through a joint legal committee in line with International Best Practice.
