The Chartered Institute of Transport Administration (CIoTA) Nigeria has congratulated the Anambra State Government on the opening of a new International Cargo and Passenger Airport in the state.

While congratulating the State Government, the President of CIoTA Nigeria, Dr. Bashir Jamon described the development as a massive aviation sector accomplishment with enormous economic potentials for the state.

The new International Cargo and Passenger Airport is located in Umueri Community in Anambra East local Government area.

Similarly, the transport Institute commended Air Peace for the feat of landing their airplanes successfully during the test run.

Meanwhile, the Institute’s spokesperson, Mrs. Chizoba Anyika has applauded Phina Nwando Okpalaeke, who is the first female pilot to land one of the three aircrafts on the new facility.

Anyika, who is also the Secretary of Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) Nigeria, expressed delight at the development as she expressed optimism that more women will become trailblazers in the air travel sector.

The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano amidst pump and pageantry inaguarated the new airport on Friday at a ceremony which took place at the airport premises.

As an epoch making event, it attracted stakeholders from all interest groups who lauded the feat as a welcome development and the Institute is excited that the airport will expand the economic frontiers of the Nigerian economy and improve the socio-economic wellbeing of the State.

According to the State Government, the airport has a four-storey terminal building with shops and ten-floor control tower including a car pack that is estimated to accommodate 750 vehicles. In addition, it boasts of the longest runway, control tower, and lightning system in Africa.

CIoTA Nigeria has encouraged other States without airport facilties, to replicate this success story with a view to expanding the aviation sector and deepening the economy for the benefit of all.
