Not fewer than three people are feared dead and others injured as a result of an accident involving a truck and train around Abattoir, Agege area of Lagos on Thursday, November 16th, 2017.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos Railway District Manager (RDM), Engr. Jerry Oche told MMS Plus that the incident occurred in the early hours of the day when a truck trying to reverse hit a moving train leaving nothing less than three (3) people instantly dead and several others injured.
Mr. Jerry frowned at those spreading false reports as against the true picture of the incident as he explained that the train was moving when a truck hit it and killed some among those hanging on the train.
He said “Our train did not derail as many have wrongly reported. The train has a right of way and it was moving on the tracks when a reversing truck hit it. Normally, when a train derails, it takes time to restore the track because it is going to leave the track and you have to bring it back to the track but that was not what happened today and as I am talking to you the train in question is safely parked in Iddo.
“I can also tell you that the situation is under control because when the incident happened, the railway police and the Lagos state police officers were on ground to manage the situation and of course you know people around the scene would be agitated but everything is under control now and we are running other trains.”
When quizzed on the level of damages and casualties recorded, he said he could not give exact figure but all he knew was that 3 people were reported dead and several others injured.
