Navy Vital to Nigeria’s Serene Maritime Environs- Onne Port Manager
PORT MANAGER ONNE PORT ,MR DUROWAIYE AYODELE FLANKED BY THE EXECTUTIVES OF THE STUDENTS

Onne’s Port Manager, Mr. Durowaiye Ayodele has attributed the growing peace and tranquility in Nigerian waterways and maritime environs to the involvement of the Nigerian Navy in commercial shipping.

Mr. Durowaiye stated that the surveillance function of the Nigerian Navy over the Nigerian maritime domain as well as the Navy’s goodwill with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has ensured that peace has returned to the sector and the commercial activities in the sector heightened.

He disclosed this while addressing students of Senior Course 38/2015, Department of Warfare, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, who had paid an operational visit to the Onne Port Complex, as part of the annual exposure to areas of strategic interest.

In his presentation, the Port Manager explained, that the relative peace enjoyed in the Niger Delta region of the country has brought comfort to shipping and attributed same to the on-going cordial relationship between the Nigerian Ports Authority and the Nigerian Navy.

He also stated that the operation of Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) can only be guaranteed in an environment of peace and order, noting that these were very strategic assets for the nation’s economy.

Speaking on the NPA’s collaboration with the Navy, Mr. Durowaiye Ayodele disclosed that NPA is planning to procure fast moving security boats for the Navy which underscores management’s commitment to support the surveillance of the nation’s territorial waters. He also assured that the management of NPA would continue to work with the Navy in the interest of the national economic development

On the specific steps taken by the Port to address issues, the Port Manager stated that the newly constituted Port Security Committee in the Port has provided an avenue for stakeholders to share information on security challenges that are unique to the port and to jointly proffer solution to such challenges.

Delivering a vote of thanks on behalf of the Commandant, Lt. Cdr NB Karah, expressed satisfaction with the enlightenment and assured that the knowledge gained will not only be applied in the college but for future endeavours.
