FG Congratulates New IMSO Chairman

 The Federal Government has congratulated the Nigerian Alternate Permanent Representative (ARP) to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Mr. Dikko Tahir Bala over his election, as the Chairman of International Mobile Satellite (IMSO).

The election was conducted in London last week, during the 24th Assembly of the body.

Bala, who was unanimously elected and will occupy the prestigious position for two consecutive years.

The commendation was given on behalf of the government by the Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Ms Hadiza Bala Usman who led the Nigerian delegation to the International body.

Usman, who is also the Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) said the election was a big achievement for Nigeria in particular and Africa in general.

Speaking on behalf of the Nigerian government, the NPA’s helmsman assured the Assembly that Nigeria and all other member states would be fully committed to the work of IMSO and ensure that the international organization succeeds in all its programmes.

She said she was happy that the new satellite technologies will ensure safety and security of life at sea.

Ms Usman thanked the delegates from all member states for their support and trust in appointing a distinguished Nigerian as the Chairman and she also assured the delegates that the Assembly, under the new Chairman would be run with the best interest of the body and all concerned.

Appraising the new Chairman, she said, “ He is hardworking and has never been found wanting in the execution of his mandate.”

She also commended the Directorate of the Assembly for always willing to support the member states despite its limited resources.

Ms Usman therefore, called on the new Chairman to always ensure that the Directorate is properly resourced and motivated to achieve its desired results.

“Always remember that the primary responsibility of IMSO is ensuring that lives are continuously being saved within the maritime domain, among others”, Usman said.“`
