CIoTA To Hold Mandatory Professional Development Programme For Transportants

The Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIOTA) will be organizing its mandatory Continuous Professional Development programme on August 31st, 2021.

President of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration (CIoTA), Dr. Bashir Yusuf Jamoh has described this programme as part of the Institute’s strategies to professionalise all aspects of transportation industry in Nigeria for sustainable development.

The programme which commences on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 will be the first mandatory professional development after the Institute became Chartered.

According to the CIoTA President, the Institute being the sole professional body in the transport industry is moving to ensure that all those involved in transport administration in Nigeria are certified to enhance professionalism.

The virtual training is themed: ‘Transport Management and Organization: Best practices’.

A release issued by the Institute’s National Publicity Secretary and Chairperson of Media and Publicity Committee, Mrs. Chizoba Anyika informed that the training sessions will feature four prominent Institute’s members as resource persons over a few hours.

They are Professor Innocent Ogwude, the former Acting Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, (FUTO) Owerri, Professor Calistus Ibe, the Institute’s Chairman, Education and Training Committee, Professor Charles Asenime of the Lagos State University, School of Transport, Department of Transport planning and Policy and Dr. Obioma Reuben Nwaogbe, a Marine Transport and Logistics expert from the Nigeria Maritime University Okerenkoko Warri.

The standardized transport training is geared towards enhancing professionalism and will be executed by qualified resource persons who are long standing prominent members of Institute.

According to Anyika, the training modules are designed to reflect current expectations in the industry as well as evolving development. It is packed with subthemes such as Transport System Organization, Management and Governance which will be handled by Professor Innocent Ogwude while Professor Callistus Ibe will take up the topic, Innovation Management and Technological Opportunities in the Transport Industry.

Professor Charles Asenime, will handle, Managing Employee and Labour Relations in Transport Industry and the last module will be taken by Dr. Obioma Nwaogbe on the topic, Benchmarking, Performance Measurement and Best Practices in Transport Organization.

According to Mrs. Chizoba Anyika, the Institute requests all members to register for a fee of five thousand naira only and gain priceless knowledge for the sustainable enhancement of the transportation Sector in addition to gaining career advancement in the transportation Sector.

Speaking to the media, the National Publicity Secretary emphasised that the Institute has painstakingly selected the resource persons for the training so that members can stay ahead of the curve, gain superior knowledge for growth and achieve greater successes in their professional career development.

According to her, CIoTA holds the key to the sustainabile development of all the modes in the transportation Sector and is therefore focused on its mandate in ensuring that the workforce is executed by only professionals.

In the words of the famous Albert Einstein, she said that Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.

She, therefore, urged all members and prospective members to take up the opportunity and enhance their competence, knowledge expertise, in addition to horning their existing skills.

At the end of the programme, all registered participants will receive a complete set of course materials and certificate of participation. In addition, participants will have unlimited access and post training support from the resource persons.
