BEARS: Rail Project: Political Moves?

The fact that the Chairman of Senate Committee on Land Transport, Gbenga Ashafa, has expressed doubts over the December delivery date of the Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail line has played up the recent argument between the Transport Minister, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi and the Minister for Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed on the completion of the project by December.

From the lawmaker’s reservations when he led members of Land Transport in the Senate and House of Representatives on an oversight function on Thursday last week, one could tell that the possibility of delivering the project on schedule was bleak.

Nevertheless the Information Minister has continuously assured Nigerians that in December the project would be ready. This leaves one wondering if the rail project isn’t a means to an end; with the end being 2019 Presidential elections.
