After the endless wait by several maritime stakeholders, the former Acting Director-General of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Haruna jauro has been sacked. However the good news of appointing a substantive DG is marred by the choice candidate, Dakuku Peterside as the new DG of NIMASA.
Isn’t this is another case of trying to put a square peg in a round hole? Even the provision of the NIMASA Act appointing a DG has been flouted.
The presidency should realize the importance of Nigeria’s maritime industry and a crucial agency like NIMASA should not be utilized for political settlements but appointing someone qualified for the job.
