BEARS: Africa Beware — BEARS thumb down military coup

When military coup and intervention into politics is becoming archaic, another insurrection came up in Zimbabwe recently. Although, the military claimed to be restoring normalcy in a nation that has enjoyed relative peace even as everywhere was seen to be barricaded with Mugabe and his family held hostage. It is important for Africa to beware of imperial moves and tendencies to divide our land. Mugabe might have his excesses but military intervention into politics and truncation of democracy remains an aberration all over the world. Democratic solutions are the best to solving civil issues in a democratic state.

“I hope no be oyinbo don come with their neo-colonial tactics again, abi na because say Mugabe yab President Trump of America during the last United Nations Convention ni..” a commentator said at a vendor stand in Ijora-Badia, Lagos.

The Libya issue is still fresh in our memory and I hope Zimbabweans will not make mistakes this time around. Mugabe should also show maturity and patriotism by tendering his resignation honorably and hand over power to an energetic person who has fresh ideas. Beware Africa.
