The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Naval Training Command, Rear Adm. Stanford Enoch, on Tuesday last week, said that the newly inaugurated e-library of the Command would make learning easy for students.
The FOC said this at the inauguration ceremony which held in Lagos.
Enoch said that the e-library, https://library.navtrac.com.ng was a repository of more than 100 million information resources ranging from books, news, journals, training course materials and personal generated resources.
“It has access to major libraries and resources spanning across a wide spectrum of subjects tapped from some of the major international online libraries such as Harvard University library, University of Pennsylvania library, Economist Countries Intelligence Report and Global Fire Power directory amongst others.
“It also has about 2 million journal articles from international journals across different subjects and areas of current research focus,” he said.
He said that library was a learning management system which purpose was to make learning very easy and also very close to everyone.
“As close to us as our phones, so that we don’t need to have physical books. Students don’t need to come to NNS Quorra before they can learn or to remind themselves what they have learnt while in school.
“From the basic professional training to the intermediate training and the advanced professional training, the course materials will be domiciled online,” he said.
Enoch said that students could access and download course materials with ease with just a click for easy access and reference from anywhere in the world.
“The portal will seamlessly interconnect all the NN professional schools and colleges for centralised access to resources in order to improve professional training in NN.
“So, they are free to have access to them either to improve themselves or to remind themselves of what they learnt while in operations. So, it is both for studies and for enhancement of their capacity while in operations,” he said.
He urged the students to always make use of the e-library, stressing that it would not have been possible without the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas releasing the resources.
“The portal would provide feeder to support both academic and research efforts of the newly established Nigerian Navy University called the Admiralty University (ADUN) at Ibuzo, Delta state.
“I therefore most sincerely thank the CNS for making the resources available for the development and hosting of this portal for advancement of training in the NN,” he said.
Enoch said that the mandate was actualized through 12 schools and colleges spread across five geo-political zones and covering eight states.
