The Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hammed Ali (Rtd) has ordered the dismissal of 66 Customs officers discovered to be addicted to hard drugs.

The CGC revealed this yesterday while addressing Customs officers at the Plateau/Benue Area Command of the service in Jos.

“We are now operating zero tolerance on the use of hard drugs, because it is very dangerous and detrimental to our operations and to our success as a government revenue generating organ. These sixty (66) identified drug-addict Customs officers are as good as out of the system because we have no place for such persons in the service,” he stated.

Ali lamented that the existence of “bad eggs” in the Customs service on the shambolic recruitment system, which he emphasized on the need to be changed in order to rid it of unprincipled and unwanted officers.

With less than two weeks to the end of 2015, the Nigeria Customs Service has over N100 billion left to meet its 2015 revenue target of N944 billion, but CG Ali expressed hope that the service would meet the revenue target before the end of the year.

“Presently, we have generated N825 billion but we have to double up so that we will not only meet the target but surpass it by God’s grace”, he said.

He charged the officers to be disciplined in order to serve the nation well and gain their promotions, because promotions in the service henceforth must be earned and not got.

Ali also admonished the officers to be God-fearing and display it in all their operations and also to be diligent in attending all the courses lined up for them.
