Kano Signs $500m Mou With World Bank

Kano State Government, on Thursday last week, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Bank and the Federal Government to support medium and small-scale farmers, with a $500m grant.

The Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Agriculture, Aminu  Garba, made the disclosure, at the stakeholders sensitization workshop, organized by Agro Processing Enhancement and Livelihood Support Project.

Garba, who is the Chairman of the State Technical Committee for the project, explained that the six-year programme, was targeted at improving rice, tomato and wheat value-chain in the state to enhance, production, processing and marketing aspect of farming for sustainable development.

Also, the Kano State Project Coordinator, Mallam Hassan Ibrahim, said the project focus had potential for immediate improvement on food security and enhancement of the products to maximize export and income generation.
