Nigeria Customs Service

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Zone ‘A’ has generated a total of N53, 822, 078, 837. 93 for the month of February 2015, representing 67.1 percent of its monthly target of N80, 162, 473, 870. 50, according to a report released by the zonal headquarters of the service.

Observers believe that the performance is below expectation considering that it has fourteen commands under its control in five South Western states including Lagos, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Ogun states.

The commands are; Lagos Industrial Area command, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) command, seme command, Apapa command, port and Terminal Multiservice Limited (PTML) command, Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lilypond command, Western maritime command, Tin can Island port command, Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Command, Ogun Command, Oyo Command and Ondo/Ekiti Command.

However, these commands realized N53,822,078,836.93 for the month of January 2015 while there is no corresponding figure for the previous year for comparative analyses, the zone acknowledged that it is poor  but attributed it to the decline in importation rate into the country, a problem accentuated by the falling global oil prices, instability in exchange rate and the election fever.

The report indicated that the Lilypond command generated the least revenue with N769, 809, 438. 00 which represents 38% of its monthly target followed by the PTML command with N4, 752, 029, 326. 00 amounting to 52% of its monthly target.

Leading the pack in performance is the Lagos Industrial command which met its target and surpassed it by generating N1, 278, 533, 237. 65 representing 104.3% of its target.

This is closely followed by the MMIA command with a revenue figure of N2, 958, 229, 9789. 40 standing at 87.09%.

Others who made the top mark include the Seme border command and Ogun command who generated N899, 800, 250 at 83.1% and 641, 794, 465. 89 respectively.

According to the report, other commands revenues were recorded as follows; Ondo/Ekiti command generated N16, 606, 715. 14 at 70.72 %, Apapa command generated N21, 561, 736, 463 at 70.01%, Oyo/Osun command generated N1, 215, 462, 166 .09 at 66.8% while TCIP command generated a total revenue of N19, 041, 686, 333 at 66%.
