To be crushed to death unexpectedly by a falling container while sitting in the comfort of your car is certainly not something anyone prays for.
So when reports came that a 40-foot container fell off Ojuelegba Bridge, killing no fewer than three people and completely destroying two private cars, one couldn’t help but wonder what could have caused such a ghastly accident.
Some say that the container was unlatched on the bed of the trailer while others say that the driver of the trailer was drunk at the time of the accident.
Whatever the case, relevant authorities like the FRSC and LASTMA have been given directives to arrest unlatched containers, but rather than do this they are more interested in collecting ‘egunje’.
It is one thing to make the rule, another to enforce it.
