The newly appointed Managing Director (MD) of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), has formally assumed office even as he pleaded for support from both the management team and other staff during an official handing over ceremony that held at the Authority’s headquarters in Lagos, this week.
Meanwhile, the former MD, Mallam Habib Abdullahi gave hint on the herculean task the management went through to reposition the organisation during his over two years as the Authority helmsman.
Bayero made the plea noting that support from the management team would be of help to the agency as well as the nation as a whole even as he pledged his support for the development of the NPA.
He stressed that synergy among the workers will give the Authority the edge over any challenge that might confront it.
The new MD said, “I need your maximum support to move the authority to greater heights. Like my brother has asked of you, I hope you will heed his call for us to form a team and work together for the interest of the country. From what I have been briefed, anything that happens here can affect the life, economy and political future of this country.
“I pledge my full cooperation and support for all. We look forward to granting all the programs that will make the name of the authority better and the way we can do this is to have confidence and togetherness. Once again, I solicit your support to form a formidable team.
“Without your support for the NPA to move forward, it will not be too good for the economy and the nation and that is why I hope we all will work together because I pledge my full support and cooperation. I am looking forward to us, putting efforts together in making the authority better and the only way to achieve that is through the confident we have among ourselves.”
The erstwhile MD, speaking earlier said that his administration went some miles to achieve some of the reforms currently running in NPA.
He said, “We went through a lot to restructure the organisation but I will leave the assessment of my tenure as MD of the authority for posterity. This job is filled with excitement and challenges; the excitement is the job while the challenges are the interests.”
“We went through a lot such as restructuring the organisation. We have gone through a lot of challenges but I will leave the rest for posterity to judge. Let posterity judge my tenure as the MD of the organisation.
He therefore called for total support for the new MD from the management team and other staff of the Authority so that NPA could overcome some of the challenges confronting it which Abdullahi said were abound.
Abdullahi however charged Ado Bayero to ensure that the various unions in the authority were well catered for because they are the ones that will help him to solve some of the challenges in the organisation.
“For you to succeed as MD NPA, you will need the support and cooperation of your colleagues. I think you need them much more than they need you because the challenges ahead are enormous.
While thanking the management team for their supports, the outgoing adduced his achievements to the support given him by the members of the top echelon of the authority.
