The Chief Executive Officer of ECM Terminals, operators of Calabar Free Port Terminal B, Mr. Dayo Balogun, has died.

Balogun reportedly passed away on Saturday, throwing the maritime and logistics community into mourning over the loss of a respected industry leader whose contributions significantly shaped terminal operations and trade facilitation in Nigeria’s port sector.

In line with Islamic tradition, Balogun as a devout Muslim was buried during the latter hours on Saturday at a private cemetery located at Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Ikoyi, Lagos.

Associates and stakeholders described the late CEO as a seasoned professional whose leadership at ECM Terminals was marked by operational discipline, strategic growth, and commitment to efficiency in cargo handling and logistics services at the Calabar Ports Complex (Nigeria’s main Eastern Port).

Under his stewardship, ECM Terminals strengthened its operational footprint and maintained a reputation for professionalism within Nigeria’s maritime value chain.

Industry players and colleagues, who reacted to the news expressed shock and sadness, noting that Balogun was widely regarded for his calm disposition, industry knowledge, and dedication to advancing port efficiency and stakeholder collaboration.

His passing comes as a painful loss to the maritime industry, particularly among terminal operators, freight forwarders, shipping stakeholders, and associates who worked closely with him over the years.

Tributes are expected to pour in from across the maritime community in the coming days as colleagues, friends, and family reflect on his life, legacy, and service to the sector.

“We can’t question God, but we can thank him for the privilege of knowing a great man like Mr. Balogun. We can also treasure the memories and lessons that we got from him as those privileged to have known him,” a senior staff member who preferred anonymity said.

A condolence register has been opened in honour of Late Balogun at the head office of ECM Terminals in Apapa GRA, Lagos.
