WISTA International To Bag Another Safety AwardThe Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) has been shortlisted for the SAFETY4SEA Sustainability Award for enhancing opportunities and supporting the role of women in the maritime industry on a global level.

The Awards taking place for the second consecutive year is part of the SAFETY4SEA Conference within the scope of fostering safety excellence and sustainable shipping.

The process is a combination of open nomination and vote with the objective to communicate and celebrate exceptional performance of the organizations that contributed towards sustainable shipping.

Karin Orsel, President of WISTA International, has commended the association’s recommendation as “a prestigious award in recognition of the diversity and equal opportunities available in the shipping industry.

“WISTA International has been advocating the importance of increasing the competences and professional development for female leaders in the maritime industry for many years; it is common knowledge that a diverse team leads to more creativity, success and thus profit.”  She said.

The voting process will be open to the industry stakeholders until September 8th, 2017 and the winner will be the one who receives majority of the online votes.

The winners would be announced during the awards ceremony at the completion of the SAFETY4SEA Conference, which will take place on Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017 at the Yacht Club of Greece.

The Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) is an international organization founded in 1974, for women in management positions involved in the maritime transportation business and related trades worldwide.

WISTA has grown to include 40 National WISTA Associations with nearly 3,000 members worldwide is a major player in attracting more women to the industry and in supporting women in management positions with networking, education and mentoring as our focus, we can enhance members’ competence and empower career success.

WISTA Nigeria is also a renowned shipping association with several shipping bigwigs as members in the country.
