Terminal operator suspends new fee on imported vehicles

The Ports & Terminal Multipurpose Limited has suspended the additional N50,000 charge per unit on folk-lifted imported used vehicles.

Media had reported on Sunday that the terminal, in a notice dated April 17, said the additional charge will take effect from May 1, 2023.

The notice also explained that the charge was necessary to cover the huge cost involved in handling the cars with folk lift.

The notice read in parts, “PTML would like to bring to the attention of its esteemed customers that with effect from May 1, 2023, all folk-lifted cars will be subject to an additional charge of N50,000 per unit. This charge is necessary to cover the high cost involved in handling the cars with folk lift from the vessel to the final delivery.

“PTML is confident that its esteemed customers would understand the rationale behind this review that will assist us in ensuring our superior level of service and also appropriate the competitiveness of its rates.”

However, the General Manager of PTML, Mr Tunde Keshinro, in a telephone chat with our correspondent in Lagos on Tuesday, confirmed that the charge had been suspended.
