The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has inaugurated a new 40-man National Executive Council (NEC) less than two weeks after it dismissed the former Council in its bid to restructuring the association for enhanced administrative competence.

The president of NAGAFF, Eugene Nweke has also revealed his plans to leave office by March next year, at that time his tenure would have reached the 6-year duration attained by former presidents, moreover the new administration would be a transitional one as proper elections would be conducted by the management in the future.

Nweke urged the new executives to be braced for the enormous challenges ahead as their new status as leaders demanded that they would make sacrifices and be forced to take daring decisions while fulfilling their mandates.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of NAGAFF’s Board of Trustees, Chidiebere Enelamah said the initiative to set up the new NEC was carried out after immense investigations and verifications to select capable leaders to augment the administrative proficiency of the association.

He posited that the new executives should perform optimally because proper elections will be organized soon and the management is there to understudy new executives, even as an anti-corrupt arm of the association had been setup to not only checkmate officers but also arrest them along with their counterparts in the Customs and other related bodies.

NAGAFF’s founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam refuted claims that the association was been undemocratic for not conducting elections, he stressed that the association didn’t want to allow misfits get into the position of leadership but ensure the recycling of great and competent people as leaders.

He also urged the new executives to be tough, “I wish you all the best of luck. I want you to know that when you are leading people you are bound to make sacrifices. Be tough. Don’t be scared of going to jail. Don’t be intimidated.”

Dr. Aniebonam tasked the president, Nweke with organizing a special workshop for capacity building of the new executives and admonished members to go for academic and professional trainings related to maritime and always be conversant with trending issues in the maritime domain and the implications on freight forwarding as a profession.

The newly appointed Deputy President (Headquarters) of the association, Oluwole Adeyemi spoke for the new executives, affirming that they would be diligent in the discharge of their duties to make the association proud.
