Improved Welfare Package: 75 NPA Workers  Seek Re-Absorption

No fewer than 75 self-retired members staff of Nigerian Ports Authority(NPA) have applied for reinstatement following the recent promotion and increase in the welfare package of workers across different grade levels.

In line with its renewed commitment to staff welfare and improved productivity towards achieving the new port order, the managing director of NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho on assumption of office ensured that over 1,500 workers were promoted at different times. Most of the beneficiaries were those who had had  career stagnation over the years owing to different reasons from the system.

Then spokesperson of the agency, Mr. Ikechukwu Onyemekara, who had confirmed the promotion in a chat with MMS Plus, asserted that the morale of workers now is high, signifying the readiness of the NPA to achieve its renewed commitment to delivering the vision of the Dantsoho-led management which aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Also, the President of NPA Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government Owned Companies(Maritime Branch), Comrade Akinola Bodunde who commended the development, has applauded Dantsoho for prioritizing workers welfare.

According to him, General Managers and 57 Assistant General Managers(AGM) have been promoted in the last two years but cumulatively over 1,500 workers have been promoted.

Consequently, MMS Plus gathered that a senior staff at the London office of NPA who had voluntarily retired against plea by the management suddenly did a volte face and applied for re-absorption. On hearing this, 74 other ex-members of staff inundated the office with applications, indicating interests to return and share in the new welfare package. However, the extant civil service rule was applied to avoid the pandemonium in waiting.
