FG Validates Joint Venture Report With Lagos Channel Management Limited

The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy (FMMBE) in collaboration with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), today has commenced five-day joint working visit to Lagos Channel Management Limited (LCM) to validate the outcomes of the Joint Venture and strengthen oversight of Nigeria’s maritime infrastructure.
The delegation, led by the Director of Maritime Services, FMMBE, Mr. Oyinloye Adeola Meshack, will conduct an on-site review of LCM’s channel management operations, aiming to track the Joint Venture’s operational performance, verify reported technical outputs and achievements, establish reliable baseline data for future performance measurement, and confirm cost-effectiveness and value for money in all channel management activities.
This validation exercise will reinforce governance and accountability within the Joint Venture framework while providing independent technical confirmation of dredging and maintenance works. The initiative directly supports Nigeria’s blue economy objectives and the long-term sustainability of channel management strategies.
Accordingly, it is hoped that establishing a performance baseline will also enable continuous monitoring and evaluation, ensuring that Lagos navigation channels remain safe, efficient, and fit for growing maritime traffic.
Recall that since the Joint Venture’s inception in 2005, LCM has been responsible for critical interventions that have markedly improved the Lagos Harbour and its access channels. The company’s mandate covers capital and maintenance dredging, quarterly bathymetric surveys to monitor channel depths, removal of wrecks and obstructions, installation and maintenance of aids to navigation, capacity building and training, as well as visual pollution monitoring within the channel environment.
