While the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigerian importers, concessionaires, among others, have found themselves in a quagmire as a result of their inability to access forex, the latest discovery by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yielded a staggering sum of $9,772,800 (Nine Million, Seven Hundred and Seven Two Thousand, Eight Hundred United States Dollars) and another sum of £74,000 (Seventy Four Thousand Pound Sterling) cash, hidden by the former Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr. Andrew Yakubu.
Dr. Yakubu has acknowledged that the money which was locked-up in a fire-proof container is for him, stating that it was given to him by unnamed donors.
Yakubu is still in EFCC custody as investigations continue on how he came about the huge cash, what it was meant for and why?
