Bears Thumbs Down Apapa Traffic Worsen

Following the closure of the Apapa-bound carriageway of the Apapa Marine Beach Bridge for the 29 days for ongoing rehabilitation, the traffic gridlock is set to worsen.

While the government for finally remembering to fix the Marine Bridge which was damaged by fire about 10 years ago, the bad state of the other routes leading to Apapa Port leaves a lot to be desired.
The bridge would have to be demolished to fix the cables and cast concrete on it again to prepare it for the next stage of construction which will be installation of bearings. The construction has started with marking, cutting and other preparations to start post tensioning of the bridge; to give strength to the bridge and the bridge would remain closed for the next 40 days.
Contract for repair of the bridge was first awarded in 2012, but the contractor abandoned the project due to insufficient funds.
