BEARS: Gender Imbalance
Last week the African Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON) made a courtesy visit to the Zonal Coordinator, Zone A, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), ACG Modupe Aremu with a ten-man delegation that had zero women. This gender imbalance was a speedily observed by the Zonal Coordinator who asked, “Are there no women in APFFLON?”
Similarly, the Confluence Logistics and Transport Consults Limited held a two-day intensive training programme on safety with one woman representative among twenty delegates. The situation is deemed strange because the Chairperson of Confluence Logistics is the Founder of Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT). WiLAT is a global feminine brand with presence in over 23 countries.
Gender balance is essential for economic prosperity. Societies that value women and men as equal are safer and healthier. Gender equality is a human right.
