BEARS: #ENDSARS

This week, Kolade Johnson, a young Nigerian was reportedly shot while watching football by SARS officers who had been pursuing another man at the football viewing centre. Kolade is not the first innocent victim of reckless behaviors by SARS operatives. Innocent young people are been extorted, harassed and killed by the same security personnel that are supposed to protect lives and properties. This shows a high level of indiscipline and disregard for human life among the Police.

There has also been a public outcry over the killing, with activists, list celebrities and well-meaning Nigerians using the #EndSARS on all social media platforms.

Although the Presidency said the Nigerian Police have assured that the team suspected of involvement will undergo a disciplinary procedure, we hope that the perpetrators are eventually brought to book.
