NNPC GMD, others set for Aret Adams lecture
The Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Maikanti Baru, will be a guest speaker at the forthcoming Annual Aret Adams Memorial Lecture, the organisers have said.
A former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Odein Ajumogobia, would be the chairman at the lecture, slated for February 23, 2017 in Lagos, the group added.
The Programmes Coordinator, Aret Adams Foundation, Mr. Akin Jokojeje, said, “This year’s lecture, which is the 14th in the series, has a theme, tagged ‘Find More, Produce More.’”
He said major players and stakeholders in the oil and gas industry, financial institutions as well as captains of industries would be present at the event.
He noted that the foundation was established in honour of the late Chief Aret Adams, the first group managing director of the NNPC (1988 to 1990), who later became the Special Adviser on Petroleum Resources to former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, in1998.
Jokojeje said Adams made outstanding contributions towards the growth of the nation’s oil and gas industry and the economy in general.
According to him, the foundation is aimed at promoting and building educational capacity and policy formulations.
He said the National Energy Policy delivered to the Federal Government in April 1980 was formulated by Adams, adding that he re-energised negotiations that led to the successful execution of shareholders’ agreements for the execution of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas project in 1989 and many others.
He said the foundation had institutionalised the Aret Adams Professorial Chair at the University of Port Harcourt in collaboration with Shell Petroleum Development Company.
The Chairman, Board of Trustees of the foundation, Mr. Egbert Imomoh, noted that Adams left behind a legacy of professionalism and humanitarianism as epitomised in many lives he touched, irrespective of tribe or religion affiliations while he was alive.
