Women Can Enhance Leadership And Governance In Nigeria – NNII

NKATA NDI INYOM IGBO (NNII) a network of women from the South Eastern Nigeria either by birth or marriage, has called for more women participation in governance and leadership structures to boost human capital and community development across Nigeria.

According to the group, if the Nigerian society recognizes and embraces women’s role in coordinating homes by increasing the percentage of female players in leadership, society will be better off.

NNII Social Media Director, Mrs. Chizoba Anyika, made this appeal in a statement issued earlier today titled, “Time For Reorientation”.

NNII posited that the recognition that  women’s potential expertise can reverse the waves of societal conflicts and insecurity in the country, adding that it is important to engage women’s expertise in critical decision making for societal progress.

“We know certainly that it is time for women to reclaim the soul of the Nigerian society and therefore encourage more women to seek  platforms where they will contribute to human capacity building and community development within the nation. NNII will ensure that projects are harmonized and aligned with international best standards and practises.”

“We all agree that women are the missing link and key partners in the continuous progress of any nation. We must begin to  balance the roles of the genders. The monopoly of governance by men must give room to the global trends that are seeing women as presidents, prime ministers and Heads of Governments across all continents. There can only be development if there is gender parity in politics as that is the root of economic and social empowerment,” the statement read.

The membership of Nkata Ndi Inyom Igbo has a convergence of professional women from all walks of life ready to offer leadership, mentorship, coaching to Nigeria’s teeming youths.

NNII, according to Anyika, works across South Eastern States to promote peace, progress and Igbo cultural values.

“We realize that women participation and even-distribution of socio-political and economic opportunities is crucial to the continuous progress of any society  because women are natural builders. We want to reorientate and change the old and parochial patriarchal views and embrace more progressive socio-cultural attitudes. We must begin to change the ways we raise our children so that we can have gender equity and justice. Most of the members in NNII grew up in an era that promoted a lot of discriminatory socio-religious practices that disempowered girls and women. The group is working to change this for better progress,” Anyika said.
