NPA Urges Newly Recruited Pilots To Be Safety Conscious
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has admonished its newly recruited pilots to make safety their watchword in the conduct of their job throughout their career in the Authority.
The Assistant General Manager (AGM) in charge of Harbours, Capt. Angyunwe Jerome gave the advice at the commencement of the induction training for the newly recruited Pilots at the Lagos Ports Complex (LPC) recently.
While counseling the new pilots to be focus and diligent in the discharge of their official duties, which he described as a “hazardous job”, Capt. Jerome enjoined the new Pilots to appreciate the opportunities given to them to work in the Authority.
Capt. Jerome who congratulated the Pilots explained though the Pilots would undergo rigorous training, at the end of their training they would be certified in accordance with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) stipulations.
Also speaking at the occasion, Harbour Master, Capt. Eboreime Uduiguomen advised the new Pilots to be ready in facing the challenges of their job but to imbibe the spirit of team work and selflessness in the course of their career.
Capt. Eboreime appealed to the new Pilots to always humble themselves in the course of their job and to always put aside rank or differences to ensure their collective success.
The LPC Port Manager, Hajia Aisha Ali-Ibrahim, who was represented by the Chief internal auditor, of the Port, Mr. D.L. Fom pledged that the Port would liaise with the Habours Department to ensure that the department is provided with overall Jackets and other working tools for the use of the Pilots.
