The two associations Nigerian Indigenous Ship- owners Association (NISA) and the Ship Owners Association of Nigeria (SOAN) may have united to form the Shipowners Forum, however, both groups maintain their autonomous status as separate bodies according to their establishing statutes.

The Shipowners Forum disseminated a press release to this effect last week to officially announce the creation of the group. The release was signed by the Chairman of the Shipowners Forum, Barr. The release stated that the two groups have shelved their differences and resolved amicably to create the united Forum and the new Forum was ready to engage the federal government constructively to enhance shipping and the nation’s entire maritime industry.
