Mary Hamman: Our Wishes Failed Us
We all wished it was a fairy tale told in moonlight with one distant Mary Hamman. Some wished it was a nightmare with foreboding. Alas, we were faced with the reality that our Mary Hamman is gone.
Her interment on Friday, in Abuja sent shivers down the spine of all. It was a solemn moment at the Cemetery. Friends and well-wishers gathered in tears and paid their last honour to the sterling Amazon, a soul steering Hall of Famer, a lover of humanity, a personification of good motherhood and good companionship in marriage. Mary was too many things in a package of humility and service.
She was always lending a helping hand unsolicited. She spoke, lived and left legacy, especially in people, which is the greatest of all. Oh, our Mary is gone! Please, let’s continue to pray for Mr. Madu Hamman and the children. Her demise is a huge loss to all and the Hall of Fame family in particular.
She played a huge role in the ongoing NAPTIP partnership with MMS WoFHoF Initiative only to take a bow for a divine journey at the point of crystalization. A delegation of MMS Hall of Famers led by our Board member, Hajia Lami Tumaka paid a condolence visit as they witnessed the burial. The pain was thick; the spiritual solitude was palpable; and tears rolled freely in surprise of what and how death can do. The amazement was how God creates and recalls at will, without a freedom of negotiation to mankind, thereby calling for preparation for departure anytime and anywhere. Life is nothing but a candle’s flame. I can’t stop sobbing!!!
