Human Trafficking: NSC, NAPTIP, MMS WoFHoF Get 11-Man Committee
The Nigerian Shippers’ Council has gone into collaboration with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons(NAPTIP) to combat human trafficking in maritime industry.
This initiative was facilitated by MMS WoFHoF Initiative, an NGO on the strength of the partnership it had consummated with NAPTIP to fight gender- based violence and human trafficking in maritime domain as well as land borders.
The collaboration is also expected to strengthen the plan to organize the Inaugural one-day National Maritime Policy Dialogue on Stowaway and Human Trafficking by sea, scheduled for October 30, 2025 in Lagos. An 11-member tripartite committee on human trafficking sensitization in maritime industry was immediately set up the Executive Secretary/CEO of NSC, Dr. Pius Akutah on Tuesday in Abuja in response to the urgency of the menace in the industry and larger society.
This was during a courtesy visit by
the management of NAPTIP and MMS WoFHoF Initiative.
The committee membership was drawn from NSC, NAPTIP and MMS WoFHoF Initiative.
