FOU  Zone A Seizes  N45m GoodsThe new Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the  Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A Ikeja, Comptroller Madugu Sani Jubrin has begun an anti-corruption vendetta which has led to seizures of various prohibited goods worth over forty-five million naira (N45,000,000) in just his first week at office.

The FOU Command has come alive since Compt. Madugu Jubril resumed office as the helmsman at the Command and several seizures worth colossal sums have been witnessed in the maiden week of the new Controller’s tenure.

The Controller disclosed this in his inaugural press briefing and revealed the seizures to include 239 bales of second hand clothing valued at N10,038,000 only, 1,120 cartons of 950MW generators valued at N13,440,000 only, 1,822 bags valued at N11,843,000 only, 336 jerricans of thirty six (36) cartons of vegetable oil valued at N2,421,900 only, 1,138 cartons of frozen poultry products valued at N6,828,000 only, and 42 parcels of Indian hemps valued at N2,016,000 only.

He revealed that in line with Service protocol, the 42 (forty two) parcels of Indian hemp would be handed over to the appropriate agency of the Federal Government which is the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). This gesture underscores the need to enhance operational synergy with various agencies of government for a sustained relationship.

The Unit recorded four thousand, seven hundred and thirty three (4,733) different remarkable Seizures, Valued at forty five million, five hundred and eighty six thousand, nine hundred naira (N45,586,900.00) in just the first one week of Compt. Jubril’s resumption. This portrays a lot of hope and expectation for the Unit and Service in general.

Compt. Jubril stated that he was not oblivious of the expectations of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) hence; the Unit would remain committed to combating smuggling and I will not rest on my oars.

“The Unit under my watch is deeply committed to eradicating smuggling along the nooks and crannies of area under our watch. We are committed to intelligence led Customs operations and this entails partnership with patriotic Nigerians. As a way of ensuring that very decisive steps are taken to decimate the smugglers, we have adopted several operational modalities for the actualization of expected results. I believe that smuggling just like scavenging is a global phenomenon which requires the cooperation of all Nigerians particularly the media. I believe that the press has a role to play in this campaign and I enjoin you to partner with us through mass education on the dangers of smuggling”, he said while addressing the press.
