The Federal Operating Unit (FOU) Zone A, Ikeja of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS)  has intercepted  two containers laden with smuggled 600 bags of foreign per-boiled rice and 384 parcels of Indian hemp.

The items seized at the weekend  by the command includes, truck filled with 600 bags of smuggled foreign per-boiled rice at Berger Junction, Ogun state while on Monday 12th June 2017,   bales of second hand clothing with 384 parcels of Indian hemp weighing 232kg loaded in a bus was also intercepted along Iyana-Paja, Lagos.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Jerry Attah who disclosed to MMSplus that the contrabands were intercepted during the routine activities of officers of the command said, ‘’there was a seizure of a bus loaded with seven bales of second hand clothing, among the seven bales six were used in concealing Indian hemps (marijuana), which amounts to 384 parcels of 232 kilograms just yesterday (Monday) 12th June alone. The day before yesterday being (Sunday) June 11th a truck was intercepted carrying six hundred bags of rice smuggled into the country’’

Attah maintained that the command under the new Custom Area Controller (CAC) leadership is committed to maintaining high moral standard and sanity among officers in the discharge of duties, ‘’our new CAC has been working assiduously with a mandate to ensuring that smuggling is brought to the barest minimum. I can confidently tell you that our officers are all working. We are getting results. Our aim is to ensure compliance, facilitate legitimate trade, block revenue leakages, and intensify efforts to achieving successful anti smuggling operations’’.
