The Federal Road Committee on Surveillance and Action Against Abuse (FERCARA) has handed all road users a warning especially the dry and wet cargo truck drivers against parking along the port access roads which has been causing obstruction to traffic even as he said that plans were on ground to create truck parks for the truckers.
The zone 2 task force coordinator, Dike Austin Kelly gave the warning last week when they embarked on a rally to sensitise the truck and tanker drivers on the menace f road abuse in Lagos.
Kelly said the mission of the task force was to assist the road users on how to improve the traffic on the road in order to create easy access to the port and to inform them that the era of indiscriminate use of the road had come to an end.
He said, “We are here to assist the rod users in all ramifications that will help improve traffic situation and have easy access to the port and also on Federal Government roads. We embarked on this rally to sensitise the road users and tell them that enough of impunity on our roads.”
Reiterating the resolve of the of the committee to stem out obstruction and abuse of the roads, the zonal coordinator said the task force was ready to fight the menace hence the sensitisation so that compliance will be prompt among the road users.
“We are prepared to fight the gridlock that bedevilled Apapa, we are ready to fight the war so we are sensitising that there is need for voluntary compliance and to obey traffic rules and regulations which is very simple than forcing them.
“We don’t want to force anybody that is why we are sensitising them to obey common law which is the regulation of traffic flows on all roads and access roads leading in and outside the ports.”
He said that enforcement may be carried out if the road users continued to flout the traffic regulations.
He however threatened that the task force may be forced to impound the vehicles of erring drivers or a fine be imposed if they continue to antagonise the rules of the roads usage even as he said that they were not out yet to carry out the vehicle impoundment but to educates them and as well warn them not to persist in wrong usage of the roads.
