The Zonal headquarters of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) played host to the promoted senior officers of the Zone ‘A’ command on the occasion of the decoration of the officers this week.
From the 2,065 officers promoted about 1,700 officers was from Zone ‘A’ command, this accounts for more than half of all the total number of officers promoted in the service.
A total of 138 comptroller made the list with 54 Deputy Comptrollers and 53 Assistant Comptrollers.
The officers were decorated with their new ranks by the Comptroller General of customs Dr. Abdulahi Dikko represented by the Assistant comptroller General Victor Gbemudu.
He charge the decorated officers to see their new positions as an opportunity to show that they merited their promotions by being diligent and competent.
Addressing journalists at the occasion the ACG Gbemudu stated that although it is in the news that the army has been banned from participating in the election the customs service is Para-military, therefore they will assist the police in terms of making sure that things go right.
According to him “I believe we can do it because we have enough officers to carry out the exercise and they have been trained, so we will act in accordance to the law”. He said.
Responding to the question of why there was delay in the promotion of the senior officers, the ACG explained that the CG can promote from level six officers and below and he has done so long before now but the senior officers had to go through the board.
In his words “why this had to take some time is because it had to go through the board but I think we are all happy at the end of the day because more than half of the officers promoted were from this Zone, so you can see that it’s a morale booster for us and it is a thing of joy for Zone ‘A’ which is the largest Zonal command in the entire federation”. He added.
