  CILT NIGERIA Conference On Sustainable Innovation Begins Tuesday

In line with the clarion call to ingest sustainability, innovation and technology across all sectors of the economy, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Nigeria would be hosting a national conference themed ‘ Sustainable Innovations In Global Logistics and Transport’ between Tuesday,11th and Wednesday,13th October, 2022 at Oriental Hotel Lagos.

The Minister of Transportation, Engr. Muazu Sambo is scheduled to declare the conference open,as the former Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority(NPA),Chief Adebayo Sarumi, is expected to give the keynote address, while special guests include:The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika;Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transportation, Dr. Magdalene Ajani; CILT International President-elect, Chief Teete Owusu-Nortey.

The two- day event which would feature the organisation’s Annual General Meeting(AGM) is a premier of CILT’s national conference where logistic experts, transport stakeholders, researchers and academia would brainstorm ideas to revamp Nigeria’s logistics and transport sector.

The technical secession will do justice to topics such as, De-Carbonization in Transport; Leveraging on Technology in Haulage Operations; Integrating Technology in Green Supply Chain Management; Energy in Transportation and Impact on the Economy; Policies, Laws, Regulations, Governance and Implementation in Transportation and Logistics, among others.

 Prof. Kayode Oyesiku, CILT’s chairman conference planning committee said, “Specifically, this is perhaps the first time CILT Nigeria would be hosting a national conference where we have a hybrid of intellectual panel discussions and paper presentations by leading experts from the industry and academic all within two full days that will also accommodate our Annual General Meeting (AGM)”.

Prof Oyesiku also explained that the theme of the conference would yield robust solutions to protect Nigeria from future decline in economic efficiency, social development and environmental protection.

According to him, ‘’The theme and sub-themes of this conference are centered on globally meeting today’s needs without diminishing the capacity of future generations to meet their own, such that, development path along which the maximization of human well-being for today’s generation does not lead to decline in future- well being”.

Likewise, the National President CILT Nigeria, Mrs.Mfon Ekong Usoro reteirated that the world class conference aside from churning intellectual discourse on the topic; is a social event.

In her words : ‘’The 2022 CILT  Conference will not be all work. Apart from networking in the cool invigorating ambience of the 5 star Lagos Oriental Hotel; a number of exciting social events in the programme, including dinners, industry tours, conference, closing dinner or dance awaits you’’.

CILT was founded in the United Kingdom in 1919 and was granted a Royal Charter in 1926. The organization has presence in over 100 countries with a membership strength of over 33,000 worldwide. It is the leading international professional body for all sectors of the logistics and transport industry. CILT is saddled to promote knowledge of the science and art of logistics and transport as well as uphold authoritative  views for communication to government, industry and the community at large in the sector.
