The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’ of Nigeria Customs Services (NCS) has made a massive seizure of over 11, 264 bags of rice at Igbesa Creek in Ogun State.

The success of the seizure was as a result of intelligence gathering and combined efforts of officers of the command.

In a press release by the Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Command Uche Ejesieme, the Controller of the Unit AG Comptroller Turaki said that the command is working in line with the Federal government’s directive on zero tolerance on importation of rice through the land borders and other unapproved roots as a ‘proactive effort to protect the investment of organisations and individuals who have invested heavily in rice farming and production’.

He further stated that as a unit entrusted with combating smuggling activities in its zone, FOU zone ‘A’ will leave no stone unturned in the fight against smuggling in the country.

According to him “the unit will continue to work assiduously towards ensuring the continuous decimation of the nefarious activities of smugglers. We are fully committed to this mandate as we are mindful of the need to protect the nation’s economy from the hands of these vandals”.

Turaki reiterated the stand he made a few months back when he took office, to stamp out smuggling especially in the Western region of the country.
