BEARS: NIMASA’s Excuse
The controversies, on the gunboat, ‘NIMASA/Barugu’ which sank recently, took a different turn as the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) subtlety confirmed that it allowed the vessel to sink owing to the fracas and litigations with the owners, Global West Vessels Specialists (GWVS).
In a report titled “The Sunken NIMASA- BARUGU Vessel: Matters Arising” by one of the agencies Public Relations officers last week, the apex maritime agency argued that it wasn’t obliged to come to GWVS’s rescue because the company instituted legal cases against it.
What would the International Maritime Organization (IMO) approve of this NIMASA’s brash decision and its audacity to publicly admit this? Can someone tell NIMASA that they have erred and should cover their faces in shame?
