The National Council for Transportation(NCT) ended in Abeokuta, Ogun State, last week, as if nothing indeed happened. The annual event is gradually becoming a ritual without results and impact.
They convene mostly academics and politicians from across the country and deliver papers mostly not discussed exhaustively and depart for another year. It has increasingly become dry for transport practitioners to attend and provide operational experience for policy making.
This is partly why the National Transport Policy has been a recurring problem for decades now. Ministers and Commissioners come and go but the practitioners remain. Even the media are hardly invited these days so as not to cut the meal of some government officials. Why promote pocket and stomach above national interest?
