Agents Cry Out To NPA’s New MD
Following
the emergence of Ms. Hadiza Usman as the new Managing Director at the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), the Chairman of the Containerized Port Complex at Tin Can, Chief Paullin Shedrack has appealed to new NPA MD to rescind Authority’s decision to evict all occupants at the complex. Chief Shedrack told MMS Plus during an exclusive chat that the change in leadership at NPA affords the aggrieved tenants an opportunity to discuss with the NPA management.”Following the change of MD at NPA, we have written to them. What we want is an opportunity to meet with their representatives. After occupying this facility for more than 10 years we deserve to be heard at a time like this”Shedrack also stated that the occupants at the complex were also preparing to take legal actions against NPA if diplomacy fails. “We don’t have intentions to fight over this issue if they decide to listen to us. But they have refused to listen or reply our letters and we have hired a lawyer because we are going to court if diplomacy fails. “We are very convinced that if they listen to us they would see reasons to change their stand on the issue. While noting that NPA viewed the Containerized complex as a threat to the security of the ports and violation of the ISPS code, Shedrack said, “In Cotonou, agents at the ports don’t have offices like we do. They stay under umbrellas within the port environment but we have offices and most of us have licenses.
