The 2020 World Maritime Day celebration in Lagos left a sour taste as seafarers, especially cadets were missing as the nation celebrated the event without key players labeled as the heartbeat of global trade. The annual event usually had two or three tables reserved for cadets during the celebration in Nigeria; however, our correspondent only found two cadets at the WMD event.
While one may be quick to settle with the excuse that the limited space amid compliance to COVID-19 social distance measures was responsible for this; it is sad that over 250 people converged at Eko Hotel to mark the event whilst cadets had a representation of 0.008%.
