Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government Owned Companies (SSASCGOC), Maritime branch, has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worth N5.5 million to members.
The General Secretary, SSASCGOC, Mr. Akinola Bodunde, disclosed this while distributing the materials last week, in Lagos, noting that the materials would help curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He pointed out that this was the second phase of the association’s distribution of PPE materials which kick started last week with the Eastern ports: Warri, Port Harcourt, Calabar and Onne.
He listed the materials as 100 cartons of sanitisers, 30 cartons of Vitamin C that contains 96 pieces each and 3,000 nose masks all worth N5.5 million.
According to him, the donation has the backing of the President of the association Mr Abubakar Abdullahi who was unavoidably absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As a union, we have people that we represent and they pay dues and this is the only way we can give back to them and ensure that they are protected during this COVID-19 pandemic. The union partnered with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) management to cushion further spread of COVID-19 in the port location,” he said.
Bodunde added that they also extended the distribution of the materials to non contributors.
The first phase took place in the month of April when the association donated N4million to all the ports in Lagos and Eastern ports.
Other executives present at the distribution of the materials were; Mr Fredrick Ochonogor, Lagos Area Coordinator; Mr. Joseph Obieme, First Trustee; Mrs. Elizabeth David, Ex Official; and Mr Peter Kalio-Mordecai, 2nd Vice President.
