BULLS: ‘Apapa Traffic’
Apapa traffic gridlock is one that has brought untold hardship and colossal losses to commuters and business persons, port users and several categories of port users. The mention of “Apapa traffic congestion” usually evokes sadness, bitterness, shame and embarrassment. The chaotic situation has also been labeled by many as a national disgrace.
However, the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Ms. Hadiza Bala-Usman managed to utilize this phrase in a uniquely amazing manner to elicit excitement at the 2019 World Maritime Day celebration.
The Minister of Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi had asked incessantly for the gifts for the Nigerian maritime amazons celebrated at the event and he resorted to give them handshakes; but the gifts appeared moments after he had returned to his seat. Hadiza created an ambiance of excitement and laughter as she explained in her usual frank and subtle tone that the gifts hand been stuck in Apapa traffic gridlock.
