Governor Ugwuanyi Awards Contract of N165 Million for Water Schemes

The Enugu State Government has awarded a contract of N165 million for rehabilitation of Ajali, and Oji River Water treatment schemes.
The facilities at Ajali, and Oji River if rehabilitated would supply enough water to Enugu Metropolis.
The Enugu State Commissioner for water resources, Chief Charles Egumbe who disclosed this, revealed that the contract was awarded to Ovamann Pumps Limited.
Addressing the contractor, Kevin Ifegbuike at the sites with his staff, the commissioner explained that he was on an inspection visit following the directive of the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, that the project should be monitored closely to ensure that they were delivered according to specifications.
Chief Egumbe explained that the Ajali, and Oji River treatment plants which have about 60,000-70,000 cubic meters of water was currently having 20,000 because of the age of the facilities that have spanned over 40 years.
He expressed optimism that the people of Enugu State, particularly those in Enugu Urban would begin to enjoy adequate water supply at the end of the rehabilitation, saying that the state governor has long term plans to expand the campaign to benefit other parts of the state.
The Commissioner charged the company to ensure that the specifications and the terms of contract were carried out to the letters pointing out that the State Government would hold the contractor responsible if any breach occurred.
Responding, the contractor handling the project, Kevin Ifegbuike, thanked Enugu State Government for the confidence reposed in the company.
He reassured the Enugu State Government that they would deliver the job efficiently to the specification and satisfaction of the governor and the good people of Enugu State.
The contractor revealed that the mechanical aspect of the pumping machines were completely damaged.
For long, the people of Enugu Urban had witnessed hardship as a result of scarcity of water in the metropolis.
