WISTA, PortHarcourt Elects New Exco
Exco Members, WISTA, Rivers State Chapter

The Women International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) Rivers State Chapter has elected a new executive to run its affairs.

The seven-man executive was elected recently during the Rivers State Chapter meeting held at the conference room of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

In her opening address during the meeting, Mrs. Eunice Ezeoke- Traffic Manager of Rivers Port,who chaired the meeting,observed that WISTA Rivers State Chapter is taking off on a good note. She advised members to take the chapter of the Association seriously.

She thanked all for honouring the invitation under short notice.

She noted that one of the highlights of the meeting was the election of the executive to run the affairs of WISTA Rivers State Chapter for two (2) year tenure.

She advised members to choose wisely in the election. She added that after the election, the chapter will swing into organizing the inauguration of the chapter.

Meanwhile, nominations were made and election of the following persons to fill the available positions were made.

Mrs.Ezeoke of Nigerian Ports Authority Rivers Port Complex, Port Harcourtwas nominated unopposed as the Coordinator WISTA, Rivers State Chapter.

Mrs. Essien Onwughara of NIMASA was elected Deputy Coordinator, while Gloria C. Jaja of NPA emerged as WISTA Secretary.

The position of Treasurer and Financial Secretary went to Mrs. Mercy Abu of IHP Consulting Services, while the post of Provost/Welfare went to Mrs. Patience Oviku (NIMASA).

Others are Mrs. Barbara EjemehNchey-Achukwu NPA who was elected Public Relations Officer (PRO), while the position of the Assistant PRO goes to Mrs. ToochukwuOkpara of Somkelex Liquids Limited, Port Harcourt.

In her post-election speech, the new WISTA Rivers State Chapter coordinator congratulated all members that emergedas new executive. She promised that as the Coordinator, to work hard to take the chapter to a higher level. She also asked others to put in their best and solicited for their maximum co-operation.

She noted that the task of building a stronger chapter of WISTA Rivers Stateis enormous, and advised them to contribute their quota to achieve the set goals. Commenting further, she said the new executive is poised to take the body to the next level.

Meanwhile, Rivers Port Manager Mrs. Carolyn AkumUfere, who doubles as the patron of WISTA at the national level, has already sent congratulatory messages to those that emerged winners at the recently conducted WISTA election of Rivers State Chapter.She reminded them that the positions they are elected to occupy is a call to service, and urged them to maintain the highest professionalism in their different jobs in the Maritime Industry.

Also the National President WISTA Mrs. Jean ChiazorAnishere- a Maritime Lawyer/Consultant has applauded the Rivers State Chapter and solicited for the cooperation of the newly elected executives.

However, it could be recalled that ‘The Women International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) is an umbrella organization of women engaged in shipping and trade related businesses throughout the world.

The Nigerian chapter of this International Organization – WISTA was incorporated in 1994, as a non-profit association. Its membership includes women, who are top and middle level administrators, service providers to the shipping industry, maritime lawyers, ship brokers, freight forwarders, chandlers, charterers and port operators, among others.

Already WISTA – Nigeria is serving as an effective business relation tool and a forum for networking and vehicle for information among her members.
