WIMAFRICA To Boost African Trade With Regional Conference
As part of efforts to enhance facilitate intra-African trade, African Women in Maritime (WIMAFRICA) is set to organize a 2-day conference on the theme; “Trade Facilitation for African Integration – Prospects and Challenges”
The event which is the second continental conference of the association, would also mark the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the 29th and 30th of October 2018, at Eko Hotel, Lagos.
Some of the distinguished speakers expected to grace the event include; the former Head of Legal unit at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Dr. Kofi Mbiah; former Technical Director, IMO, Mrs. Monica Mbanefo; CEO Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE), Mr. Oscar Onyeama; Secretary-General of Abuja MOU, Mrs. Mfon Ekong Usoro.
Others are; Chairman of ENL Consortium, Mrs. Princess Vicky Haastrup; CEO of Oceanserve Logistics, Mrs. Chinwe Ezenwa ; Premier Director General, Nigerian Chamber of Shipping (NCS), Mrs. Ify Akerele, Chairman of the Nigeria Ship owners Forum, Mrs. Margaret Orakwusi, among others.
WIMAFRICA is a non-profit organization designed to answer the call for gender equality, women empowerment as well as to establish a cooperation of entrepreneurship development of African Women in the Maritime Sector.
The organization currently comprises members from twenty two (22) African countries such as; Togo, Angola, South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, Ghana, Niger Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Nigeria, among others.
Some of the objectives of the organization are; to promote cooperation and collaboration between national, regional and international organizations to advance African women in the maritime sector; to maintain mainstream participation of African women in all aspect of the Blue Economy, including policy, advocacy and maritime awareness; to promote human capacity development, entrepreneurship development and employment for women in all facets of the maritime sector in Africa, among others.
