Shippers’ Council Bags 2019 World Bank Ease of Doing Business Award
In recognition of the immense contribution and support of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council towards driving PEBEC’s overall reform initiatives in 2018, the NSC was adjudged winner of the “World Bank 2019 Doing Business Ranking Award” category, while the NSC’s Reform Champion at PEBEC, Miss Adaora Nwonu received a Special Recognition Award as the Reform Champion of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council on the World Bank 2019 Doing Business Index.
The second annual PEBEC Awards took place at the State House Conference Hall (Old Banquet Hall) and was hosted by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), which is chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
In her welcome remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Industry, Trade & Investment / PEBEC Secretary , Dr. Jumoke Oduwole stated that the PEBEC Awards was aimed at acknowledging and appreciating the efforts of specific arms of government, subnational governments, ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government, as well as the private sector stakeholders who contributed significantly to the ease of doing business intervention of the Administration.
She added that the collaborative efforts and continuous support of these stakeholders have significantly contributed towards improving Nigeria’s business climate and overall competitiveness in line with a key strategic objective of the Economic Recovery & Growth Plan (ERGP).
On the same note, the Vice President and Chair of PEBEC, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, in his address, noted that it was needful to recognize the stakeholders who implemented the impactful and landmark reforms in the year 2018, as well as to recognize members of the private sector who have expressly supported the intervention.
While presenting the Award to the Executive Secretary/CEO Mr.Hassan Bello, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo congratulated the NSC and urged the Awardees to keep up the excellent work.
The Nigerian Shippers’ Council is one of the priority MDAs within the scope of the Ease of Doing Business Reform Agenda of the Federal Government and has since been driving a number of initiatives to improve the business environment particularly in the port industry.
