Port Police Declares Readiness  As Boko Haram Threatens Lagos Port

The Commissioner of Police (CP), Western Port Command, Mrs Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison has said the men and officers of the command are poised to curtail any form of insecurity that may rear its head in this yuletide.

Speaking exclusively with  MMS Plus Weekly in her office last week, the  Commissioner said “It is Christmas season,naturally we expect increased activities and a lot of miscreants who also want to get something for Christmas and so the security agencies and particularly the western port police has been sensitized to ensure good security for this season.

Mrs Ibifuro-Harrison while speaking further, enjoined the media to be the eye and ears of the police force in tacking the security situation in the port, adding that the police was ready and prepared for any eventuality.

“My men will be very visible, they will be all around the port at their posts, there will be vehicular patrols, there will be men on the beats to ensure security in place at the western port, to enable us have a robust festival season.

Meanwhile, earlier at the inauguration of the new executive of the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), she revealed that the port police command had received threats from the Boko Haram sect to attack the premier port of Nigeria, Apapa.

Speaking through a representative, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP),Selmen Amachree at the inauguration, she said that the threat was real.

According to her, “We have beefed up security and made sure that in case of such presence, they don’t hit their target.

“If a mad man says he will stone you, or that he will throw a stone at you, he either already has the stone with him or he is stepping on the stone, so you must not take the threat for granted and that is why you probably observed that we have beefed up security to make sure that they do not get ton their target, we hope the threat does not succeed in the port,” she added

She stated further that the Port Police Force will go out of its way to ensure the strictest vigilance to forestall such eventuality.

Meanwhile, the new President of MARAN Mrs. Ifeyinwa Obi in her inaugural speech said that the mandate of MARAN had always been accurate and unbiased reportage of Maritime news pledging that it will not change under her leadership.

She further stated that as the first woman to be elected President of MARAN, she will never disappoint the members that elected her into office adding that under her leadership, MARAN would continue to collaborate with other stakeholders to see that solutions are proffered to the various problems besetting the industry.
